I have experienced rather severe lockups when the TCP/IP configuration had
some errors. The lockup was such as you describe, and this was with Windows
2000 that normally does not have that happen. Check out your network
settings to make sure there are no problems there, and possibly re-install
your dialup networking.

This may not be the problem, but it may be worth checking.
