I've got three machines, all running XP. For some reason, one of them
isn't accepting a JPG file as the desktop wallpaper, and I have run out
of things to try to do to figure out why. It only displays BMP files,
like Windows used to do in the bad old days.

As far as graphics settings are concerned, they're all configured pretty
much identically -- I let ACDSee take most all of the graphics format
associations, rather than that Windows Picture and Fax Viewer ... but
that's still loaded in the systems because it's needed to generate
thumbnail views in dialog boxes. Anyway, I don't even know where to
look for a source of this bizarre trouble.

Obviously the machines have different graphics hardware, but the
misbehaving machine isn't even the oldest one -- it's got plenty of RAM
and CPU speed and a decent ATI card, so I am not inclined to think it's
hardware related. I don't know if this has been going on since the XP
installation or not, to be honest I just never noticed it before. I
don't change wallpapers very often.

I realize this is mighty vague, but I really don't know what else to
specify that might be a factor here- I'm flummoxed.

If anyone has any familiarity with this problem, or knows of something
else I can check on the 'afflicted' machine, I'd sure love to hear it.
These silly little problems take up an inordinate amount of my time, I
hate to just let them sit there without trying to fix them.
