The process is called "closing" or "finalizing". There is some additional
information that is written to the CD that also prevents any more addition
to it. If you wrote to the CD several times, you have a multi-session CD.
Note that older CD drives may not be able to read a multi-session CD.
Closing/finalizing also helps the CD be compatible with older drives.

what does she mean?  I have been copying CD's, but they cannot be read on
other computers.  I have WindowsXP.
