As to the "mechanics" of getting a web site listed,
it is my understanding that it 'helps' search engines
to have keyword meta tags to assist in finding
pages about certain topics. This may not be AS
true anymore, now that certain search engines are
'selling' higher rankings in their returned links lists.
As a sample of the HTML code to use in the
<head> area of a web page, consider this tag from
one of my school's web pages:
<meta name="keywords" content="St. Mary's County Public Schools, Margaret
Brent Middle School, middle school, Maryland, public school, St. Mary's
County">
As I mentioned, meta tags are located in the head area
of an HTML web page, and are not displayed on
the page itself.
