I did a format c: on my disk also did an fdisk reloaded win98se. Everything went fine except that after reloading software and some of the tune-ups. It started doing it again. Windows will lock up on start up. These are my possibile causes:
1. I went into windows device manager and click on my hard drives and check the box for DMA. I have a ata66 cable installed on a fic 2013 mb. The award bios has dma support enabled. The box in hard drive that I put the check mark doesn't have it now and I am leary of doing it again.
2. I have a modem that seems to have a disappearing IRQ. It will be there in the morning but not in the afternoon. It plugs itself into IRQ3. I would like to lock it there manually but can't remember how.
There is also the offhanded chance that it could be something else, in one of the tune-ups. I use the vcache min/max, boot delay =0, and have my swap file on my D: drive with the max set at 2.5x the actual ram and the minimum set at 5 less.
I am considering redoing the format c: and trying to keep better track but it takes me quite a bit of time to load eveything. Especially the patches from M$ updates.
Thanks for a the help you have given me so far on this I really appericiate it. I would love to solve this one.
