Hi Joe,
Two thoughts: (1) Since defragmenting takes a long time, run the laptop
off A/C and turn off the Power Management while defragmenting.
(2) Do you have a Screen Saver running? If so, set your Screen Saver to
"None" during the defragmentation, and use your manual screen controls
to blank the screen.
