I've used Word 2003 as a part of Office 2003 Pro, and had none of the
symptoms you describe. There have been many patches and security updates
that may have addressed such problems. Try this... with Word open, click on
Help> Detect and Repair> and then try to restore the default settings. If no
success there, try Help> Check for updates. Be advised that you will need
the disk if the original setup files have been removed through "disk
cleanup".
