Having learned from this list that I did not have the latest version of
Zone Alarm, and being unable to keep it from starting, I uninstalled it.
The only remedy offered by subscribers to disable Zone Alarm I had not
tried was manually deleting pertinent registry entries. Disabling Zone
Alarm in Start Cop, as suggested, did not keep Zone Alarm from starting.

With Zone Alarm no longer starting I noticed a jump of several percentage
points on my Norton System Doctor "User free" (RAM) sensor.
