As we don't have much info to go on, and I don't know your level of
expertise, my reply can only be in very general terms.

These are the general steps I'd normally take whenever system errors start
to creep in:
1. Check the MSKB under Msgsrv32 for any pointers to the problem.
2. Run Scandisk
3. Run SFC.
4. Restore registry (go back to a backup made well before the error was
first seen). This is nearly always the most effective remedy when things
start to go awol.
5. Reinstall Windows over the top.
6. Reinstall Windows anew.(Plan this carefully--copy the System folder to
somewhere safe on your hard drive before you delete Windows--and save
anything else important or useful within the Windows folder---eg
Desktop. The System folder will contain many program-specific .dll and
driver files which you may need later. You might also want to backup your
current registry so that you can easily get back to something resembling
your current configurations. This will also confirm/eliminate whether the
error is registry-related).
7. Reformat. (I've never yet had to do this myself. A last resort for
major problems in case all else fails, though most techs recommend that it
be done regularly to retain brand-new performance).

I've assumed that you have eliminated possibilities specifically caused by
recently installed/uninstalled software/hardware or other system changes.
