Preston:

This could be it: http://www.distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major

Here are two sites that have excellent general information for newbies as well
as links to many other useful sites:
http://www.newtolinux.org.uk/index.shtml
http://www.justlinux.com/

BTW: In the past, whenever I've replied to questions about migrating to Linux
from Windows, I've often mentioned that there may be hardware compatibility
problems. Well, I've just found a simpler method: Knoppix. Knoppix is
Linux-on-a-CD. Simply put, you boot to a Knoppix CD in the CD-ROM drive and,
if all goes well, you'll have Linux running. Here's the neat part: Because it
runs completely from RAM and the CD, it does _not_ affect your hard drive. No
partitioning, no formatting; when you shut down, it is gone. It can be
downloaded from: http://www.knoppix.org/.

You can also buy the CD-ROMs from places such as cheapbytes.com, or perhaps
your local lug (Linux User Group) will have them. (I paid all of $2.00 for
one last weekend.) The St. John's LUG is at: http://www.cs.mun.ca/~slug/

A very comprehensive list of LUGs can be found at:
http://www.ssc.com:8080/glue/groups/nonus/canada
