I have been running Netscape Version 6.2 on a Windows XP Home system for
several months without incident. Apparently due to some interaction
with other applications running at the same time a day ago it stopped
shutting down completely. That is, although the application screen
(browser or email client) closed, and the task bar cleared, I find in
the Task Manager [Ctl-Alt-Del] that a process is still running
(netscp6.exe). The effect of this is that I can't restart Netscape
without (1) rebooting the PC or (2) ending this process in the Task
Manager. It more or less behaves now like a TSR program, a not well
behaved one.
I've reinstalled Netscape 6.2, and installed Netscape 6.2.3 in an
attempt to replace any corrupted files, and searched the registry for
keys that might control shutdown without success. I'm looking for
advice on how to resolve this without having to uninstall and reinstall
(which might also fail to clear the bug).
TIA
