Yes, the file( CV3 ) was indeed there in the windows/Down loaded program
files. I
have deleted that file. The windows update page now gets loaded but without
any list of files to down load.(same as if, all the updates were already
there on the hard disk).

This is a near-wild guess and I don't guarantee anything, but in your
"windows\Downloaded program files" folder, try removing the item called "CV3
Class". This might force an reinstallation of the update component next time
you visit Windows update
