I don't know about that, I have an HP deskjet and it doesn't know have any
sensors checking expiration dates. The cartridges come in foil packs, and I
keep them in air conditioned areas where they won't be exposed to heat. I
checked the date stamp on the packaging of my next black ink cartridge I
plan to use, and it is July 2001, so the one I have in the printer now is
older. It prints fine. I have had a couple go bad while in the printer,
but never one in its unopened foil pack.

Be careful with that.. We had that at work too, they bought a ton of them
when they got money, months later when they went to use them, it wouldn't
work cause it kept coming up with an error saying they were expired... Best
bet is to get kits to re-fill them. Cheaper too. Just an FYI
