<<<< PCSOFT Digest - 5 Jan 2007 to 6 Jan 2007 (#2007-6)from what i gather, my mother
has dowloaded a windows media player update and now writes she gets the
following message:
"To finish installing Windows Media Player, restart your computer and then log
on as as administrator or a member of the Administrators group." i many times
logged off but the same notice comes back each time

and she is unable to use it.
what should she do to fix the annoyance. unfortunately i live in another country
and can't get my hands on the pc. i've never used the remote assistance program
xp provides.
thanks in advance,

Hi,

as you must be knowing win xp has a feature " user accounts". when you install for the first time it will give a choice of ADMINISTRATOR (PRIMARY) with choice for "password". whatever is entered there is the ADMINISTRATOR.

you also have the choice not to have any "user accounts" leaving the machine open for anyone to use.

so pl. check with your mother who is the administrator for that machine, because, obviously she is not, and win xp is not letting any changes to be done by her.

HTH and good luck----Venkat
