The first things I do are:

<F8> on bootup and select MS-DOS prompt (even Safe Mode MS-DOS if necessary)

C:\ CD \WINDOWS
DELTREE /Y TEMP (NOTE:you may leave off the /Y and it will ask "Are you sure
you want to remove all of C:\WINDOWS\TEMP" Yes
MD TEMP

Also rename unnecessary files (do not delete)
C:\ CD \
REN CONFIG.SYS *.M03
REN AUTOEXEC.BAT *.MO3

Now 3-finger salute (re-boot)

Does it still hang?

Subject: [PCSOFT] System hangs after booting

Anyone:

I have a clone running Win98SE, 783 mg of ram, and 2 - 60 gb hard drive.

Since yesterday, my system boots and within seconds of loading, i.e, Windows
comes up. the desktop icons load, the system hangs. This happens whether I
open an appication or not. It just hangs.

I checked the performance tab under 'System' in the Control Panel and it
advises that the drives (A, C and D) are all running under DOS compatibilty
mode. I have no idea what this means but my recollection is that this
message was not present when I last checked this tab.

Any suggestions? Do I need to do clean install and start over again
(shudder)?

Thanks for your input.
