MS sometimes makes different rules and or "standards" for its own programs
and "features" and I do not POP3 into Hotmail with MSOE to get mail pickups.
With that disclaimer asside, I would say that "any other" mail account in MSOE
would need a setting changed in the program.

(Remember everything you change so if can be put back if this does not work
as expected.)
Click Tools, Accounts, Mail (tab), and see if your HotMail account is listed
and highlight it. Click on the Properties button.
Click on the Advanced Tab.
Look near the bottom, and remove the check mark from the "Leave a Copy of
Messages On The Server"... Hopefully this will correct the problem.

AFTER you have run the mail pick-up one more time, you should only start
seeing "new mail" on the server and getting only one download of it on "this"
computer. (If other computers are involved, it becomes much more complicated.)

                  Good luck, Rick Glazier
