Shortly after that I've had problems with the PC restarting sometime during the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes when I get up it has restated and appears to be normal, while other times it is constantly restarting--it will restart and 2 - 3 minutes it will restart again and keep up this cycling.

If it's more than a few years old, take a look at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague and pop the cover to have a
looksee.
If you don't find any bad on the motherboard, pull the power supply and look
inside it.
I've had success replacing bad ones on about 9 out of 12 tries, which is
replacing all of matching type to any that look bad. I buy mine from
http://www.mouser.com/ .
