Hi all,

I tried out the new Norton Antivirus 4.0 trial version, didn't like it, and
tried to uninstall it. However, the system crashed in the middle of the
uninstall and now I have a residual problem that I don't know how to correct.

A Netscape plugin was installed originally so that all Internet downloads
would be scanned for viruses. However, with the incomplete uninstall, now I
cannot download any "exe" self-extracting files since Netscape is trying to
spawn the "external viewer" that is no longer there. Obviously the program
has been removed, but the reference to it has not.

I have looked in my plugin directory but see nothing that I would instantly
recognize as a "nav" type program. It may well be there but I don't know
the file name I would be looking for and it isn't obvious (at least not to
me). Using "About" "Plugins" in Netscape shows no hint of any Norton plugin
being installed.

I have deleted any NAV "helper" associations I can find in Netscape (using
"Edit" "Preferences" in Communicator 4.04) but still no luck. I have even
re-installed Netscape to see if I could overwrite whatever the offending
stub was, but nothing there either. I was prepared to download and
reinstall the NAV4.0 trial again just to uninstall it thoroughly, but alas
the Trial version itself is an exe file and I can't save the download since
Netscape is still trying to scan for viruses using a now non-existing program.

Help!

TIA to one and all.

Michael
