Jim Harris' original msg (clipped)

>> An intermittent problem has become a constant problem with RealPlayer and
now has started with Windows Media Player:

When RealPlayer icon in tool tray is clicked (or opened from "Programs"),
Real player starts to load and after +/- 40 seconds, and +/- 90% loaded,
the following window appears:

“ Realplay: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut
down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor
Details:
REALPLAY caused an invalid page fault in
module MSWSOSP.DLL at 015f:7b11195f.
Registers:>>

from your post I assume that prior to the occurence of the error msg you have been able to access both real player and windows med player without any problems.whilst it is imposible to even try to pinpoint the causes without knowing exactly the time of occurence of the first error msg and details of the
program(s) you were running immediately prior to the occurence of the problem
i would say the following for whatever it is worth.

(1)MSWSOSP.DLL is an application extension file in windows/system folder

(2)It is used for windows "socket select"

(3)to me it appears that the error msg is due to an "IRQ" conflict or a "time out" in windows seaching for the data.

(4)therefore all I can suggest is please see if you can uninstall BOTH real player and win med player and re install either one only and see how it goes.

(5)if one works ok then install the other one and hope for the best!

good luck ----Venkat Viswanathan
