ALPHABETIZING FAVORITES
Several people have posted requests for help on this topic lately; I replied to them individually, but now think the problem might be widespread enough to warrant my sending it for public posting.
1. I'm running on Win98 SE platform; and when I click on Start button, then right-click on the Favorites list that drops down, I can select "Sort by Name" near the bottom of the favorites list. However, I don't really know whether this feature is native to Win98 or a feature of some utility I've added. Moreover, it does not seem to create a global change.
2. To do that, open your browser and click on Favorites; select "Organize Favorites."
This brings up a two-paned box, with the right-hand pane containing a list of all the favorites. In all likelihood, the earliest entries will be in alphabetic order; but grouped together in random order at the end of the list will be all more recent entries. Left-click on one of these--and hold the left mousekey down as you move the black horizontal line that appears in lieu of its title to the desired position . Then lift the left finger, and watch the folder jump into place.
This is a bit tedious; for you must do it for every bookmark that's out of place;
but if you discipline yourself to make this a regular housecleaning job, you'll never have so many to do at one time again. I try hard to remember to do it to all recently-added bookmarks about once a week, while it is still a five-minute job.
