System Information within Windows can give you an idea regarding IRQ's, and
ports to see if there are any devices sharing the same resources. I suspect
you may have to try reinstalling the modem. One way you may want to try is
to uninstall or remove the device in Device Manager, then power down the PC,
remove the modem physically from the case and go through a boot sequence
followed by a power down. Then reinstall the modem and allow windows to
"discover" it. If you have a particular location where you saved the driver
files, you can point it there (Also, you may want to look for the drivers
for your modem from the manufactures website if possible and then transfer
them to a folder on your HDD) or have windows determine the drivers to
install. I have had two unfortunate experiences with Windows Update updating
hardware it detected on my PC's. First time required paid support from M$
for an update to an on-board sound chip (home built PC), the second was for
the on-board video driver for a PC (Dell 4600) at work. Both required a
system restore, which may also be another option, if you have it enabled and
have a restore point just prior to the start of your difficulty. HTH
