I downloaded and ran Steve Gibson's OptOut utility to scan for and
remove the Aureate/Radiate "spyware". It found the program on my hard
disk and entries in my registry. I ran the remover part of the utility
and it seems to have worked with no problem. He says that it is likely
that the software that introduced this spyware onto your system will
probably no longer work once you run this. I've not found anything that
does not work yet. His Web site (grc.com/optout.htm) has a partial list
of the programs that use this software and he says that the Radiate Web
site has a full list of about 400 programs that use it. I found one
freeware program on the list that I used once a couple of weeks ago but
deleted because I did not like it. I'd suggest that if you do find
software that no longer works because of removing this spyware that you
contact the author of the software and tell them why you are no longer
using their software. The authors are being paid for using this
software and you may do some good by telling them that you are no longer
using their software because of the spyware they are distributing along
with their software.
