The Win98 Shutdown bug seems to come out of nowhere, and can be EXTREMELY
hard to eradicate. You may be lucky and crack it. However, you can
sometimes apply every one of the 30 or 40 known fixes and still not get a
result.

You'll find hundreds of web pages with these fixes.

A last resort (which is 100% effective, but not the most elegant solution)
is to shut down to DOS (the option is on the Shutdown menu) then switch the
machine off physically.

If it's an electronic switch, press and hold it for 10 seconds or so.

Recently, when I shut down, 9 times out of 10 the computer gets as far as
the "please wait" logo screen and freezes, necessitating a reboot. Then I
can shut down without problem. Any suggestions re fixing this
problem?Win98SE
