Subject: Problems with Works 2002 on LAN

I had a problem that took much time and effort to almost solve. My experience may help others.
I have an HP Photosmart 7260 printer connected to an IBM Aptiva which is connected via ethernet cable to a Belkin F5D7230-4 router. The printer is shared. My hp pavilion zd7000 laptop has a wireless connection to the router.

One of my problems was that my MS Works 2002 database program on the wireless laptop sometimes worked and sometimes gave the error return "MS Works Database has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" It also took a very long time to start up. The error report said ModNam = hpzpm309.dll. My search revealed that there are 3 copies of this dll, one of which differs from the other two in the version and date. The location of these show that it is used by the HP printer.

When using the task launcher or the folio programs I got the error message "The procedure entry point ?WksSetUnhandledExceptionFilter@@YAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library WkWat.dll" Three copies of WkWat.dll are on my machine, two of which are the same; the other is different. I tried swapping these in various ways. I downloaded a copy of WkWat.dll from a website. None of these helped.
I then found that the error in MS Works 2002 on the wireless laptop occurred when the Aptiva was off and not when it was on. This is undesirable since the Works programs are often used away from home and without doing any printing. My guess is that the installation of Works 2002 on the laptop connected it to a shared dll on the Aptiva instead of on the laptop.

I also tried MS Works with the wireless switch on and off. It consistently failed and succeeded with the wireless off and on respectively.

I re-installed Works 2002 with the wireless off so it could not link to the dll files in the shared printer folder. However, before the re-installation, it would not let me remove the Task Launcher. The problems remain.

Am I right and Any suggestions?
