Thanks for the suggestion. Once I get online and get some other issues resolved I will check them out. I see that you are in Australia - - given how fractured markets are around the world, it is amazing how universal these computer problems (and solutions) are.

I was going to respond to this offlist but I have a question related to your suggestions. In the past, I have tried google desktop as that search function is pretty robust and QuickBooks uses it within their program. However, That program seems to use a lot of resources. Do you find Locate32 to be less obtrusive? (On a similar note, I switched to Foxit pdf viewer after numerous lockups with Adobe and love it.)

The search function in XP/7 is pretty useless anyway.

Download free Locate32. It's almost instance once you have told it to build its primary database, and extremely efficient. You can use wildcard---eg search for       *.pst
