Dear Len,

I haven't experienced anything like this problem (I'm also running
XP, and have also been updating regularly - including the IE
updates); but I did find something about it on the 'net: it's
apparently affecting a very small number of users and it's taken some
time to get a solution (but apparently once known the fix is "easy").
Here's one solution:

Hi All,
Problem solved for XP PC.
I've solved this problem by restoring the temporary internet files
folder to the default folder.
Go to registry and check the setting for the temporary internet files.
_
For_XP_Settings_Location_Key_in_the_registry_is:_
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders"
You should check "Cache" settings. Default is "%USERPROFILE%\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files"
Cheers,
Milesh

There is a long thread on this subject at WUGNET (Windows User Group):

http://help.wugnet.com/windows/update-kb931768-ie7ftopic-569944-days0-orderasc-16.html

If you have the patience you may want to go through it! Of course
apart from trying to make sure that the setting for IE's "temporary
Internet files" is in facty the default it's expecting - and changing
the location to the default if it's not - you could also try a
"System Restore" which would remove the update. You should then be
able to run IE as you used to, but of course without the benefit of
the update, which is supposed to help (though some users report that
they're happier running without it).

Good luck! = Cheeta Gauba / [log in to unmask]
