If you want a local email program and liked the "old" thunderbird, 
version 2 works with XP and Win7.  I tried version 3, then 8 and didn't 
like them.  Version 2 gives me more flexibility reading (the way "I" 
want to read)    The version I use is 2.0.0.24.  You can google for old 
versions.  Gmail is good, but not local (on your machine).
