Consider the following issues when digesting my comments below:
All my AutoCAD experience is with US English versions.
Italian and/or European versions may have additional restrictions or
required files that are not found in US versions.
Your results may vary.
1) I run AutoCAD 2002 US English on a Sony laptop using XP Home with no
problems, and we run AutoCAD 2002 US English at my office on a desktop with
XP Home. If network versions, network licenses or domain configurations are
involved, then Home may not be compatible. From my experience stand alone
versions work fine on XP Home.
2) AcGe15.dll If this file is corrupted, a Google search for the file name
will yield sites where it can be downloaded. If it is there but AutoCAD
seems to be unable to find it, others on the Autodesk forums suggested
copying the file into the folder that contains the executable (acad.exe).
If these measures fail and you still want to try to get AutoCAD running on
this computer, try re-installing on top of the existing installation. Make
sure anti-virus and spyware protection programs are turned off during
installation.
3) Uninstalling. Deleting the folder from Program Files if there is no
Add-Remove Programs selection may be the only option. It will probably
leave behind some stray files, but you will regain the hundreds of
megabytes that a non-working program is taking up. Look for AutoCAD in
Start>Programs to see if there is an uninstall icon available. If there is
not an AutoCAD selection under Start>Programs, that would lead me to
believe that something went horribly wrong during installation.
4) Blank space in the Add-Remove Programs listing is a known bug in AutoCAD
2002 and LT. Google search for a file called autocadaddremovefix.zip. It
contains a Visual Basic script that does the fix for you. If you want to do
the fix manually in the registry see this Autodesk discussion thread:

I hope some of this information may be of help to you.
