I mean it was "non-clickable": the Printer window had only one
non-clickable icon for "Add Printer". The installed printers were not
showing at all, just a white-blue pattern around AddPrinter. Neither the
window not the AddPrinter icon were dimmed.

Yes, 'show all files' was selected.
