Ahror asks:

<<Everytime I start my computer
(Win95) I get this missing file message saying "filesec.vxd" could not be
found. Then it asks me to press any key to continue. How can I stop it from
asking to press a key each time I restart my computer? >>

This usually occurs after you have incompletely uninstalled a program, and
an orphan line in one of Windows startup files or registry has been left
behind. Thus Startup is telling Windows to load this file, not knowing
that you have deleted it with its associated program.

That's why it's never wise to get rid of a program by simply deleting its
files, unless there's no alternative.

If you can recall whether you uninstalled anything immediately prior to
this error being displayed, that may put you on the right track to locating
where to get rid of the faulty "load" instruction.

Someone on the list may be able to tell you what this driver file is
associated with.

You have 2 basic alternatives--either reinstall the offending program, then
uninstall it properly, either using its own uninstall or unwise.exe, or use
a monitored uninstaller such as Cleansweep.

Otherwise you'll have to check your windows initialisation files such as
Startup folder, Win.ini, Autoexec.bat, or the Run parts of the registry and
manually remove any reference to the program associated with that file ( a
"virtual driver").

Here are the possible registry locations:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
