Weird.  I've used Eudora for years and have never seen anything like
that.  The only thing I can help you with is item 4.
When a program uninstalls itself, it uninstalls only the files it
created.  Any user files - your address book, etc, are left untouched.  So
yes, it's safe to delete them, but then you'll lose your address info.   If
you're uncertain, simply rename the folder to something besides Eudora so
that the install can't find it.  (if it finds it anyway, choose the option
for a new install, not an upgrade.   Good luck, sounds like you'll need it.
