You aren't doing anything wrong but you will have to have more software. When a document (form) is scanned in, it is a picture in your computer. Word processors can't read the text in a picture without some help.

There are two ways that I'm aware of that you can use to do what you want to do. Both involve getting more software.

The first way is to get an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. This software converts the text on a scanned image to a usable text document. I've had some limited success with both cheap and expensive software products, such as Adobe, Omniform, or Omnipage Pro. You can see a range of this type of software at:

http://www.brothersoft.com/ocr_freeware_shareware_software_download.asp

or

The second way is to use a picture overlay program. The basic way these work are that the form is scanned in and it stays as a picture. The software then allows you to "type on the picture which you can then print. One of this type that you can download as a demo is Form Pilot Home at:

http://www.colorpilot.com/index.html

A search of the internet will yield more shareware and possibly freeware. I've had some success with this approach but sometimes the results aren't as great as I would like. The newer versions are much better than a couple years ago though.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction.

Doug

I can't figure out how to scan a form then use
that to fill in the blanks(like a job application).

I know how to scan, but must be saving it the wrong
way or something.

Can anyone help me?
