Mark asked about auto filling the pattern of dates in an
Excel sheet column.

One way of doing this is to have the 1st Tuesday date in
say A1, 1st Friday in A2 then in A3 do =A1+7 and in A4
=A2+7. You then "auto fill" cells A3 and A4 down the sheet
using the "fill handle" in the bottom right of the two
selected cells.

"The auto fill" will take with it any background colour you
have applied to the cells. If you want the background
colour of the whole row to auto fill highlight the row
numbers 3 and 4 and the fill handle will appear in the
bottom LEFT of the 1st cell. This will auto fill the 2
cells in every column in those 2 rows.

Excel handles dates by saying the 1st of January 1900 is 1
and then adding a 1 for each day after that. This means the
underlying date number for Tue 19 August 2008 is 39679 and
for Fri 22 Aug 2008 is 39682. Because the "pattern" of a
week is 7 days auto filling a pattern based on "10's" will
give the odd result you quoted. By using the formula =A1+7
you are auto filling a pattern based on 7 which is what you
want.

When you start a new sheet copy the top 4 cells to the new
sheet, type over the first 2 cells with the new dates, the
2 cells below will update to what you want and then those 2
cells can be auto filled down the sheet.
