My method is to power down and disconnect the old drive from the primary
IDE channel.  Then connect  the new drive to the primary channel and the
old drive to the secondary channel.  I then boot with a floppy, and then
do an XCOPY to bring all of the contents of the now secondary/old drive
over to the primary/new drive.
