For a fix, go to http://www.scitechsoft.com/sdd_win.html

They allow you to download their program, SciTech Display Doctor - if it
doesn't work, you don't have to purchase.   If it does work, the cost is
minimal.  I have used it for several of the DOS games, and so far, works
like it should.
