Diane,

Get a program that will help you do it. There's lots of programs out there
but "Drive Image" will do the job better than most. Otherwise it is messy.
At more cost you could add a Raid board (a little tricky to set up) which
can keep your data continually and automatically duplicated on a exact size
(to your existing) hard drive.
