Unforunately you can't fax via a DSL connection.... you still have
to rely on a FAX Machine/ analog modem.

When you use a FAX machine or dial up modem it dials the telephone # using
POTS (Plain Ole Telephone System)...Which routes the analog signal (voice or
data) through the Central Switch (or multiple switches) to the destination
telephone #, when it's phone rings its FAX/modem pickup the line and starts
"talking" so to speak.

DSL is different....This is a special high frequency signal transmitted by
your Telephone Company From your local Central Office(or Switch) or Remote
Central Office often times refered to as an RT (Remote Terminal). Your DSL
modem sync's up with this signal to communicate to the DSLAM..which in turn
is connected by T3 or ATM to your ISP and from your ISP to the Internet.

From expereince I have spoken to many people that were angered that they
couln't fax through their DSL. Unforunately they simply misunderstood that
they could use a FAX while using DSL.

This is a major downside to those wanting to elimiate a 2nd phone line used
for FAX and internet....while going on the knowledge they can talk on the
phone while using DSL.

But that's my answer...:) Have a nice day :)

Patrick

Subject: [PCSOFT] FAX via DSL connection? How or can this be done?

I now fax from my pc via a dial up K56 modem, which is connected to the same
phone line that my DSL service is provided.

My question is 'can one send fax via DSL connection?' If so, how?
