Fault Module SOL.EXE come up.>>

In the absence of any easier suggestions, this is what I would do for this
type of problem, in the following order:

1. Think back to what you might have installed just prior to the fault
starting to show itself. Possibly something you've installed or altered is
creating a conflict. Uninstall whatever it was, see if that fixes the
problem. May not be effective it the later prog has made fundamental
changes to the system, unless you use a good install monitor such as
Cleansweep.

2. Reboot holding Shift key down (this will prevent most startups from
opening), go into Task Manager and close EVERYTHING except Explorer and
Systray. This will give you a clue to what's causing the conflict, if
Solitaire now runs.

3. Go to MSKB, also Google, and type in your exact error message. Chances
are that the answer will be out there somewhere.

4. Try a registry restore, back to a time before the error started.

5. Reinstall Windows over the top. This will fix minor errors, and you
won't lose anything much in the way of settings.

6. Delete Windows (best done from a dos boot floppy using Deltree) and
reinstall anew. You'll lose everything within the Windows folder, so save
what you want---eg email and internet settings, mailboxes, Address Book,
Favourites, Desktop, Sendto and Start Menu folders, System folder if you
have the space ( this will save you reinstalling a lot of programs for
missing files and drivers---they will mostly be stored in the Systems
folder from where they can be easily recovered). Don't forget, any folders
or files kept on the Desktop will disappear with Windows---a good reason
not to keep anything important on the Desktop, which should really only
contain shortcuts.

If you have to go this far, it might be a good opportunity to consider
reformatting your hard drive so that you can start with a clean slate,
removing all the rubbish that tends to accumulate over time. Provided, of
course, that you have all your install software available.
