I think they are talking about a update which came from microsoft and
wondering if they should download that or not.

Sorry I did not make it clear. On my own system I have Java AND JavaScript
enabled. But I must also clarify that Java and JavaScript are entirely
different animals. Java runs programs that are downloaded to your computer
(applets) while JavaScript is part of the web page you are viewing. Java and
JavaScript can be enabled or disabled as separate items. There is also VB
Script from Microsoft and Active X controls that also need to be addressed.
On my own system, I have Active X controls set to prompt since I feel they
are more hazardous than Java.

These are my own decisions. Others may have a different view on the security
of these.
