There is one other thing that may be the problem.  I went through hell for
almost three months with frequent disconnects, problems connecting, etc.  I
went back and forth on this with my ISP because the trouble started when
they upgraded to 56K.  After no resolution for all that time, one day
everything just started working well again.  Obviously there was a problem
with the ISP which they apparently fixed and I haven't had a single
disconnect for a couple of weeks now.
