Hi Toomas,

Actually, Norton does update the definitions daily. You have to
download them individually; they're called Intelligent Updater. The
Live Update only comes out on Wednesday, unless there's a major
threat, but the dailies have all the obscure ones that may or may not
get loose in the wild. Sounds like you got caught in between.
Bummer.
Personally, I've tried Avast and liked it. It's much less bloated than
the other major players (AVG excepted). However, I use Norton.
Avast and Norton were the only two (at the time) that would work
seamlessly with Pegasus mail. My reason for going with Norton was
two-fold, one being that Avast stored its rescue system on the hard
drive (no rescue boot floppy and made a system backup on space I
couldn't lose at the time) and two, when I ran a test comparing the 4
(McAfee and AVG being the other two), only Norton was able to
catch the zip within a zip virus test file (eicar). McAfee seems more
bloated than Norton, and AVG, while good, gave me some grief
when I tried to apply their patch for Pegasus, and never ran properly
afterwards.
Just my opinions, of course. To each his (or her) own. All of them
are good, it's just a matter of one's tastes and preferences.
