Jim,

Go to this directory:   C:\windows\recent

In this directory you will find all sorts of *.lnk files.  Deleting anything out
of here will remove it from your START => DOCUMENTS area.  This is
where is stores the links for that area.   You can do this safely...

You can also build a *.bat file for your autoexec.bat that can DELETE
everything out of that directory everytime you start the system...  it is not
how Microsoft intended you to clean out the Documents area...
but, it works.
