Jpeg compresses files so you get more pictures per chip. However, it also
loses a little bit of the image quality every time it is saved. It is
better to get one saved RAW image (.bmp) and from there do what you want
with the image - make a small jpeg emailing, but don't overwrite your
original,. full detail image.
I guess it depends on what you want from your camera.
