Problem: Someone sent a file that required Quicktime to open. We
downloaded Quicktime and it has taken over our computer. It somehow changed
the association of everyone of our jpg and gif files to Quicktime and parked
itself on our taskbar to sit there unless we exit out. I am quite frankly
"sick" of quicktime since it didn't ask, but took over all our jpg, gif etc.
files.

Recently I was advised to find a jpg and gif file and change the association
"back to the preferred browser". I tried, but then when the choices came up
I couldn't remember what they were originally before the invasion. I put
the jpg files in our Adobe Photo Deluxe program and they are working o.k.
BUT the Quicktime icon is still on everyone of them in the file lists.
Also - my husband says originally all of them were in Paintbrush.

I am sure it shows that I am quite confused. I don't know what the gif
files association should be??? I guess what I am asking is, what was the
original default on all these files? I am running Windows 98SE.

Should I just live with the takeover of Quicktime and leave well enough
alone? I just don't like not having any control over it and quite frankly
wish I had never heard of Quicktime.

Thoughts? and thanks in advance.
