  Yes, Novell and 3.1 can be used together.

  As I recall, though, one of the common bits of wisdom in the age of
286s was that you could run Windows *or* Novell, but that trying to
run both left you with no conventional memory for applications.  So
while it's physically possible, it may not be very useful.
