Hi Thom,
Go to Control Panel and bring up "System". Click the "Advanced" tab then the
Performance "Settings" button. In the "Performance Options" window, click
the Advanced tab and at the bottom is a section on "Virtual memory" where it
defines the paging file and tells you the size for all drives. The "Change"
button allows you to adjust the settings. For example, if you have
sufficient free space on the hard drive you can increase that allotted for
virtual memory.
Virtual memory is not normally a problem with Windows XP providing you have
sufficient memory and free space on your hard drive. Microsoft recommends
128 MB memory as a minimum for XP (they says it'll work with 64 MB but
performance and features may be limited). With your setup the first thing
I'd do is max it out on memory (whatever the max is for the Dell 2400)...
you can never have too much. Then install another hard drive and move all
your personal stuff (to include the My Documents folder) to it. I would also
create a "Program Files" folder and install all programs on the second hard
drive. Hard drives are cheap these days and well worth it.

Why does my system tell me I'm low on virtual memory? Is there anything
that can be done to increase "virtual" memory?
