Maybe I can contribute something here finally. I don't know about Word
97, but in Word 7.0 for Office 95 these codes can be seen by going to
the Tools menu, selecting Options, and then selecting the View Tab. This
will give you a dialog box showing checkboxes to turn on non-printing
characters as well as a section with checkboxes to show things like
bookmarks, object anchors, field codes and others. Hope this helps with
Word 97.....
