Resources are fixed bits of data such as icons and fonts. One of the long-
standing problems with 95, 98 and ME is that, to maximize backward
compatibility with 16-bit Windows programs, only a relatively small pool of
memory is allocated for these, for the entire system.
NT/2K/XP do a much better job by giving each application its own resource
pool...
Some of the programs you see listed are associated with the icons in the
system tray, at the right end of the taskbar. There are probably a couple
of those that you don't neeg.
But because the resource pool is currently shared, trying to kill off
unnecessary processes will not be effective for very long.
I recommend that you upgrade to XP Home instead. It's all of the things
ME was expected to be.
