Every once in a while I get some message on start-up concerning not loading
or not finding some software and I do as you did - reboot and see if it
repeats. If it doesn't I put it out of mind. With all of the software,
drivers, settings etc. that get loaded on start-up I'm amazed that something
doesn't get loaded quite right more often.

In your case, it seems that a soundblaster setting from your autoexec (a
start-up file) failed to load properly for some reason. When things like
that happen and don't repeat, I just figure that one of the millions of
electrons flowing in the computer simply accidently bumped into another
electron.

This reply isn't very technical - just based on my experiences.
