Hi joseph, thanks for ur reply.actually i also did a google search before i posted
on the list and got only four topics for "cnvshell.dll".permission was denied to open two of the pages by the servers and one page referred to a similar problem
but it was related to win xp and you have kindly referred to the same.anyway i did try to change the name from"cnvshell.dll"to cnvshell.old in the win system folder but was promptly shown a window saying i can't rename because it is in use by windows!.so i am still struggling with the problem and microsofts knowledge base articles don't seem to help but there are so many of them i am still trying to get the correct article and hope some other member of the list will come up with a solution.furthermore the error msg window shows the "windows logo" and says"explorer caused--etc" so i am not even sure w
hether it is internet explorer related(in which case i would expect the IE logo in the msg window)or simply windows explorer related.the main problem is that i am simply unable to right click on any desktop icon but am able to do so in a blank space and access the relevant menu.anyway thanks a lot and have a good day--venkat viswanathan
